The Justice Department Is Going To Stop Using Private Prisons

This is a promising first step, I have always thought the privatization of prisons to be wrong on several levels, it allows the profit motive into the justice equation which is a dangerous road to travel. We have seen corruption cases in recent years where judges were caught sending juveniles into the detention system in exchange for kick backs. Privatization, I think, also has led to our prison industrial complex where we see many states spend more of their budget on prisons than on schools, moreover the prison lobby demands more prisoners which influences and warps legislation and thus policing behaviors. When are we going to learn to be more circumspect when it comes to profit? We have been fed a steady diet of propaganda from the corporate world, that privatization is optimal, it is for the executives and the investors, but for society not so much.
